Kasur, September 13, 2025: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Saturday said the state cannot continue to endure recurring losses of lives and property due to devastating floods, underscoring the need for stronger civil-military coordination to mitigate future disasters.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief made these remarks during his visit to the Kasur Sector and the Flood Relief Camp in Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan, where he reviewed ongoing relief and rescue operations. Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and senior officials of the provincial administration accompanied him.
Field Marshal Munir was briefed in detail on the prevailing ground situation, including rescue and rehabilitation measures underway in flood-hit areas. He stressed that infrastructural development and preventive measures must be expedited to protect vulnerable communities from recurring devastation.
“The state cannot afford yearly losses of precious lives and properties,” the COAS said, urging inclusive, people-centric progress and better governance to address the root causes of recurring flood damage.
He emphasised that coordinated civil-military efforts were essential to effectively respond to the humanitarian crisis, reaffirming the Pakistan Army’s commitment to supporting all public welfare initiatives.
During his interaction with displaced families at the relief camp, Field Marshal Munir assured them of continued support for resettlement and rehabilitation, while flood affectees expressed heartfelt gratitude for the army’s timely assistance during the emergency.
The COAS also met troops, Rescue 1122 personnel, and police officials engaged in relief work, lauding their high morale, operational readiness, and round-the-clock dedication in challenging conditions.
Earlier, he conducted an aerial reconnaissance of flood-affected areas along the Lahore–Kasur and Multan–Jalalpur Pirwala axes to assess the scale of damage. Upon his arrival, he was received by Corps Commanders of Lahore and Multan.
