Abu Dhabi, September 19, 2025: The Super Four stage of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 has been confirmed after Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by six wickets at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, a result that ended Afghanistan’s campaign and sealed Bangladesh’s spot in the next round.
With this victory, Sri Lanka completed the Group B stage unbeaten, winning all three matches to finish on top with six points and a net run rate of 1.278. Bangladesh, despite a negative net run rate of -0.270, secured second place with two wins and four points. Afghanistan, who needed a win to qualify, were eliminated.
Group A fixtures are still ongoing, but India and Pakistan have already booked their berths in the Super Four. India will play their final group-stage match against Oman on Friday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The Super Four phase kicks off on Saturday in Dubai, with Bangladesh taking on Sri Lanka in the opening match. The following day, cricket fans will witness another high-voltage Pakistan–India clash at the same venue. After a rest day on Monday, Pakistan are scheduled to face Sri Lanka at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 23.
Afghanistan’s exit was confirmed despite their superior net run rate compared to Bangladesh, after failing to defend 169-8 in their final group game. Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi lit up the innings with a breathtaking 60 off just 22 deliveries, smashing three fours and six towering sixes at a strike rate of 272.72.
However, Sri Lanka’s batting unit proved too strong in reply. Chasing 170, Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 74 off 52 balls, decorated with 10 boundaries. He found support from Kamindu Mendis (26 off 13) and Kusal Perera (28 off 20), guiding Sri Lanka to victory in 18.4 overs.
Sri Lanka’s commanding form makes them early favorites heading into the Super Four, where the stakes rise and rivalries intensify. With Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in the mix, fans can expect a string of high-octane contests in the coming week.
