Islamabad, September 20, 2025: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has identified around 100,000 wealthy social media users who openly flaunt extravagant lifestyles and warned that those failing to update their income tax returns will face strict legal action.
According to FBR officials, a special monitoring team has been tracking individuals who showcase luxury homes, flashy cars, high-end jewellery, and lavish weddings on social media. These displays are being cross-checked against the income declared in tax filings.
Authorities revealed that some individuals have been spotted wearing designer suits worth up to $20,000 at weddings, driving luxury vehicles, and hosting extravagant functions — expenditures that often do not match their reported income.
As part of the crackdown, FBR will audit nearly 80% of all tax returns to detect discrepancies. Those hiding assets, wealth, or undeclared income will be asked to provide proof of sources. Officials made it clear that legal action will follow against individuals who fail to justify their spending or update their filings.
The tax authority has also set its sights on lavish wedding expenditures, which it says must be reflected in tax records. “Nothing will be said to those who submit correct and updated income details,” FBR clarified.
Officials urged citizens to file accurate and timely tax returns to avoid complications, stressing that the crackdown is aimed only at those living far beyond their declared means.
