Three children killed, five injured in Bajaur blast linked to extremist group

Bajaur, September 28, 2025: A tragic explosion in the Laghri area of Bajaur claimed the lives of three children and left five others injured after they came across an abandoned explosive device believed to have been planted by the extremist group Fitna al-Khawarij.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 27, when the children were playing near the device. Following the blast, Pakistan Army troops swiftly responded, airlifting the injured to Peshawar for urgent medical care. The victims are currently being treated by specialist doctors at CMH Peshawar, where their condition is being closely monitored.

Police and security personnel immediately cordoned off the site, collected evidence, and launched an investigation. Authorities stressed that the explosion reflects the lingering dangers of explosives deliberately left behind by extremists in civilian-populated areas.

Fitna al-Khawarij has a track record of using mosques, homes, and other public spaces as shields in terrorist activities. In a previous incident in Wadi Tirah, stored explosives detonated, killing several civilians along with 14 militants.

Officials said the latest incident is another reminder of the risks posed by militant tactics designed to endanger innocent lives. With support from local communities, the Pakistan Army and security forces reaffirmed their commitment to clearing Bajaur of such hidden threats and fully neutralising the group’s presence in the region.
