Peshawar, October 12, 2025: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday confirmed that the resignation of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been “duly received and acknowledged” by the Governor’s House, ending days of uncertainty over the status of his resignation.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Governor Kundi said: “Today at 2:30 p.m., the handwritten resignation advice of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was duly received and acknowledged by the Governor’s House. After thorough scrutiny and legal formalities as per the Constitution and relevant laws, the subject resignation will be processed in due course of time.”
The statement came after two days of confusion regarding the fate of Gandapur’s resignation.
On Wednesday, Gandapur announced that he had resigned from his position as the province’s chief executive. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Salman Akram Raja confirmed that party founder Imran Khan had directed Sohail Afridi to assume the role of chief minister.
However, the Governor’s House initially denied receiving Gandapur’s resignation letter, which had been shared with the media on Thursday night. Reports suggested the letter had been delayed amid bureaucratic red tape.
Earlier, Gandapur bid farewell to his staff at the Chief Minister’s House before departing for his hometown, Dera Ismail Khan.
In his first media interaction after stepping down, Gandapur urged the Governor to expedite the acceptance of his resignation, saying any delay would be detrimental to the province’s governance and political stability.
“I have fulfilled my responsibilities with honesty and dedication,” he said, adding that he hoped for a smooth transition of power in the province.
Following the Governor’s confirmation, officials said that constitutional and procedural scrutiny of the resignation is underway. Once verified, the Governor is expected to formally accept it, paving the way for the appointment or election of a new chief minister in accordance with provincial law.
