Gaza, October 28, 2025: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to carry out immediate strikes in the Gaza Strip after accusing Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu directed the “military echelon to carry out powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip immediately” following security consultations in Tel Aviv.

The directive came shortly after Israeli officials claimed that Hamas had opened fire on Israeli forces in southern Gaza — the first such incident since the fragile truce came into effect earlier this month.

Tensions escalated further after Netanyahu accused Hamas of handing over the remains of an Israeli hostage who had already been recovered, calling the act a “serious breach” of the ceasefire terms.

Hamas, for its part, said it had recovered the body of a hostage it intended to hand over later on Tuesday.

According to Israeli officials, 13 hostages’ bodies are still believed to be held in Gaza.

The latest developments threaten to unravel the U.S.-brokered truce that has largely halted fighting in Gaza in recent weeks, amid ongoing efforts by mediators to stabilise the situation and advance reconstruction talks.
