Peshawar, November 1, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Saturday assigned portfolios to its newly formed 13-member all-male provincial cabinet, a day after the ministers took oath at a ceremony in Peshawar.
The cabinet, constituted by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, drew criticism on social media for lacking female representation, with commentators calling for greater inclusivity in provincial governance.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Wing of the KP Administration Department, the following portfolios have been allocated:
Provincial ministers:
- Meena Khan Afridi — Local Government, Elections and Rural Development
- Arshad Ayub Khan — Elementary and Secondary Education
- Fazal Shakoor Khan — Public Health Engineering
- Amjad Ali — Housing
- Aftab Alam Afridi — Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights
- Syed Fakhar Jehan — Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control
- Riaz Khan — Irrigation
- Khaleequr Rehman — Health
- Aqibullah Khan — Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement
- Faisal Khan Tarakai — Labour
Advisers and special assistants:
- Muzzammil Aslam — Adviser on Finance
- Taj Muhammad — Adviser on Sports and Youth Affairs
- Shafiullah Jan — Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who was elected last month, had earlier said he would finalise his cabinet after meeting imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan. However, after repeated attempts to secure the meeting failed, Imran’s sister conveyed that Afridi had “complete authority” to select his team.
Opposition lawmakers in the KP Assembly had previously criticised the delay in cabinet formation, claiming that key administrative decisions were stalled and warning that the delay risked creating grounds for emergency rule in the province.
The PTI’s provincial leadership had also emphasised that individuals with corruption allegations or questionable reputations from the previous cabinet should be excluded from the new setup.
