MWM Chief, PTI leaders condemn 27th Constitutional Amendment, warn against dangerous moves

Islamabad, November 11, 2025: Leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) strongly criticized the recently passed 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it a betrayal of the Constitution and a move that dangerously favors a few individuals.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside other party leaders, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja said the amendment was passed in the Senate yesterday with 64 votes and questioned the legitimacy of the Senate’s formation following the 26th Amendment.

“We came here through the votes of the people. On February 8, our votes were attacked, yet those who were allowed to be elected have the right to sit in the assembly because they represent the voice of the public. The rest have their heads bowed,” Raja said.

He added, “This is no longer a battle for lawyers alone—it is a struggle for women, children, and the elderly. Living nations prove themselves, and the Constitution gives you the right to take to the streets and raise your voice.”

MWM Chief Raja Nasir Abbas condemned the amendment, saying it was a distortion of the Constitution to benefit a select few. “The Constitution states that ultimate sovereignty belongs only to Allah. Self-interested individuals amended it for personal gain, deceiving the public. Recognize those who claim exemption for themselves—their intentions are dangerous. We will no longer remain silent,” he warned.

Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also criticized the amendment, stating that it provides nothing for the public. “Two senators were pressured to pass this amendment, and the courts have now been brought under administrative control. Where will people turn for justice now? Only Allah’s court remains,” he remarked.

The leaders collectively vowed to continue their political struggle against the amendment, highlighting that the move undermines public trust and threatens the principles of justice and accountability.
