Islamabad, October 21,2024- Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, expressed strong reservations regarding the recently proposed constitutional amendment, calling it an attempt to undermine the independence of the judiciary. During his speech in the assembly, he remarked, “The amendment does not represent the will of the Pakistani people. If it had been approved on October 31, what difference would it have made?”

Ayub criticized the pressure exerted on several members of the assembly, including Mubarak Zeb, Zahoor Qureshi, Aurangzeb Khichi, Riaz Fatyana, Zain Qureshi, and Adil Bazai. He revealed, “Adil Bazai’s commercial buildings were demolished, and Zain Qureshi’s wife was forcefully abducted from her car late at night, only to be returned early in the morning after Speaker Ayaz Sadiq informed me of her return.”

He further disclosed that Riaz Fatyana’s son was kidnapped twice, and Intizar Panjhota has been missing for 11 days. Additionally, Mubeen Jatt’s house was demolished, and members of the party were subjected to physical violence during the entire process. The PTI leader also alleged that Chaudhry Ilyas and Usman Ali were abducted and brought to the assembly, while Mubarak Zeb’s brother, a PTI worker, was forcibly disappeared and then presented. Similarly, Zahoor Qureshi and Aurangzeb Khichi were also forcibly disappeared and later made to reappear under duress. He further added, “The founder of PTI has been without electricity in his prison cell for the past five days۔
