Islamabad, November 26,2025: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Dr Ali Larijani on Wednesday called for strengthening the joint security mechanism between Tehran and Islamabad to more effectively tackle terrorism.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Dr Larijani lauded Pakistan’s counter-terrorism measures and emphasized that collaboration between the militaries of both countries would enable more efficient operations against cross-border terrorism.

Dr Larijani, who also serves as adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a two-day visit. During his stay, he held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation on regional and international issues.

Earlier on Wednesday, he met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), praising Pakistan’s role in maintaining regional peace and security.

Dr Larijani also highlighted Tehran’s readiness to assist Pakistan in resolving ongoing tensions with Afghanistan, stating that Iran would respond positively whenever called upon.

On the issue of Palestine, he stressed that the Palestinian people should have the “right to elect their own government through open elections” and cautioned that U.S. proposals for peace in Gaza offered only “temporary solutions” while potentially creating larger problems. He added that any Pakistani participation in a peacekeeping force in Gaza would be entirely Pakistan’s decision.

Regarding Pakistan’s mediation efforts in Iran-U.S. relations, Dr Larijani welcomed constructive initiatives, noting that Pakistan’s repeated offers for joint meetings were respected by Tehran.

He also spoke about the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, saying Iran had fulfilled its obligations and the project had reached the border. “If there had been no obstacles, Pakistani households would already be using Iranian gas,” he said, expressing hope for a swift resolution.
