Rawalpindi, December 2, 2025: Uzma Khanum, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, said on Tuesday that the former prime minister is in “good health” following her long-awaited meeting with him inside Adiala Jail — the first in nearly a month.
Speaking to reporters outside the facility, Uzma said the interaction “went well” and reassured supporters that Imran was stable and recovering. “Alhamdulillah, his condition is fine and he is fully recovering,” she said, offering a rare, on-record update amid weeks of speculation regarding his wellbeing.
Uzma said Imran complained of being denied communication and regular visitation. “They are subjecting me to mental torture. One person is responsible for all of this,” she quoted him as saying.
She added that Imran appeared visibly frustrated during the meeting and claimed he was confined to his room for most of the day, with only limited opportunities to go outside.
Her visit was allowed after repeated refusals by the jail administration, despite court orders permitting meetings between Imran Khan, his family, and senior PTI leadership.
Tuesday was a scheduled visitation day for Imran and Bushra Bibi. Imran’s sisters — Aleema Khanum, Noreen Niazi, and Uzma — arrived at the Gorakhpur checkpoint alongside Barrister Salman Akram Raja and dozens of PTI supporters. However, the jail administration permitted visitation for only one person, restoring access after a 29-day suspension.
Ahead of the visit, the Islamabad Capital Territory administration and Rawalpindi district authorities imposed Section 144 across both cities after PTI announced plans to stage protests outside Adiala Jail and the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Last week, Aleema Khan filed a contempt of court petition against Adiala Jail authorities, accusing them of defying an IHC order granting visitation rights. The petition names Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, Saddar Beroni SHO Raja Aizaz Azeem, Federal Interior Secretary Capt (retd) Muhammad Khurram Agha, and Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin as respondents.
The plea comes amid escalating tensions outside the jail, marked by an overnight sit-in by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI lawmakers after Afridi was denied access to Imran for the eighth consecutive time last Thursday.
PTI leaders allege that the repeated refusals constitute a systematic policy of “political punishment,” despite explicit judicial directions allowing meetings.
Earlier in the day, Aleema Khan and CM Afridi visited the Islamabad High Court to request a meeting with the court’s top judge. Speaking to reporters outside the IHC, Afridi claimed they were told the chief justice “did not want to meet them.”
The party maintains that the restrictions are unjustified and politically motivated, while authorities continue to cite security-related concerns for limiting access.
