Islamabad, December 5, 2025: Russia has suspended all international mail services to and from Pakistan after Pakistan Post failed to clear outstanding dues amounting to Rs 55 million, the National Assembly was informed on Friday.
Federal Minister for Communication Abdul Aleem Khan told lawmakers that Russian Post formally notified Pakistan of the suspension in August 2025, citing unpaid bills dating back to 2021. The move has effectively disrupted all postal exchange between the two countries.
The minister revealed that Pakistan Post’s financial troubles extend far beyond its dues to Russia, with total international liabilities surpassing Rs 310 million as of November 2021. These arrears reflect long-standing operational difficulties and institutional weaknesses within the state-run postal service.
Abdul Aleem Khan assured the House that the department intends to clear the outstanding amount owed to Russia as soon as the Finance Division releases the necessary funds. Once the payment is made, Pakistan Post will formally request Russian authorities to lift the suspension.
The disruption has affected thousands of individuals, businesses, researchers and academic institutions that rely on international mail for essential communication, documentation, and trade-related correspondence. Many have reported delays and uncertainty as postal routes remain blocked.
Officials stressed that swift resolution of the issue is vital to restore confidence in Pakistan Post’s international operations and ensure uninterrupted mail delivery for all stakeholders.
