Islamabad, December 7, 2025: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on Sunday issued a new gas load-shedding schedule for domestic consumers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the winter months of December through February, advising households to plan cooking and heating around designated supply hours.
Under the revised schedule, domestic gas will be available in three daily time slots: 5:30am to 8:30am, 11:30am to 1:30pm, and 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Industrial consumers, however, will not face any interruptions. SNGPL officials clarified that while gas demand rises sharply in winter, the supply system has sufficient capacity and urged users to consume gas judiciously.
The announcement follows federal directives on winter gas supply. On November 24, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik chaired a meeting on seasonal gas management, instructing utilities to ensure uninterrupted service for households and reviewing the rollout of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) connections.
Malik noted that domestic gas supply this winter is “significantly better” than last year. SNGPL’s managing director added that gas is now available to households from 5am to 10pm, prioritising convenience alongside traditional meal-hour supply. Officials from the Petroleum Division, SNGPL, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) attended the meeting.
Gas load-shedding has been a persistent political and social concern in Pakistan. The country holds only 0.4% of global gas reserves but accounts for 1.1% of global consumption, with households using nearly half of the total supply. Other major consumers include the fertiliser, power, industrial, and CNG sectors.
The federal government recently resumed the issuance of RLNG connections for domestic consumers, ending a four-year suspension imposed in 2021 due to declining reserves. The ban had forced many households to rely on costlier alternatives such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for cooking and heating.
