Rawalpindi, December 17, 2025: Police on Wednesday registered a terrorism case against the sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and around 400 others following a sit-in staged outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi late last night.
According to police, a first information report (FIR) has been lodged at Police Station Saddar Beroni under provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act against Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, Qasim Khan, Aliya Hamza, Salman Akram Raja, Naeem Panjotha, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and other PTI leaders and workers.
The FIR also includes Section 120 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy against the state, along with charges related to attacking police personnel and violating Section 144.
Imran Khan’s sisters, accompanied by hundreds of PTI supporters, staged the sit-in outside the high-security prison after authorities stopped them from meeting the jailed former prime minister.
Police said 14 suspects were arrested on the spot and presented before an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
“The suspects raised slogans against the government and the state and blocked the road,” the FIR stated, adding that they incited other PTI workers and interfered with the official duties of police personnel. The FIR further alleged that protesters pelted stones and hurled glass bottles at the police.
Imran Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023, is facing multiple cases ranging from corruption to terrorism following his ouster from power through a no-confidence motion in April 2022. His incarceration has remained a major flashpoint between the PTI and the government, with repeated protests over restrictions on meetings with the former prime minister.
Last week, police forcefully ended another hours-long sit-in staged by Imran Khan’s sisters outside Adiala Jail after officials said the designated meeting time had ended. In November, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also staged a 16-hour sit-in outside the facility.
The last reported meeting with Imran Khan took place on December 2, when his sister Uzma Khan was allowed to see him following PTI concerns over his health and threats of protests outside the Islamabad High Court and a march towards the jail.
Amid the ongoing tensions, government officials, including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, have hinted at the possibility of transferring Imran Khan to another prison.
