Tehran, January 9,2026: Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned what it described as “meddlesome and deceptive” remarks by US officials regarding Iran’s internal developments, saying the statements reflect the continuation of Washington’s longstanding hostility toward the Iranian nation.
In a statement, the ministry said the US positions are not driven by concern for the Iranian people but are aligned with a policy of “maximum pressure,” threats, and interference in Iran’s internal affairs. It accused Washington of seeking to incite violence, terrorism, and unrest, and to create insecurity inside the country.
The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that, in line with the principles enshrined in Iran’s Constitution, the Islamic Republic recognizes peaceful protests and remains committed to addressing the legitimate demands of the people within the framework of the law. It stressed the importance of taking necessary measures to reduce economic hardships, noting that a significant portion of Iran’s economic challenges stems from what it termed the US-led economic and financial war, carried out through “illegal and unjust” sanctions.
According to the statement, the pressure campaign against Iran goes beyond economic measures and includes psychological warfare, media campaigns spreading false information, threats of military intervention, and incitement to violence and terrorism. Tehran said such actions are in clear violation of the UN Charter, peremptory norms of international law, and the fundamental principles of the international human rights system.
Recalling what it described as a long history of US hostility and interference in Iran’s internal affairs, the ministry cited events ranging from the August 19, 1953 coup to US support for Iraq’s Ba’athist regime during the eight-year war, alleged participation alongside the “Zionist regime” in the June 2025 attack, and the imposition of unilateral sanctions. It underlined the responsibility of the United Nations and other international institutions to uphold international law, particularly respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of independent states.
The Foreign Ministry also called on the international community to pay serious attention to the “illegal and inhumane” nature of unilateral US sanctions, arguing that they directly target the livelihoods, human rights, and daily lives of ordinary Iranians and constitute what it described as a crime against humanity.
Concluding the statement, Iran said its nation would continue to confront foreign interference with vigilance, national unity, and reliance on its Iranian-Islamic heritage, and would not allow what it termed deceptive US policies to undermine Iran’s sovereignty, independence, and dignity.
