Murree/Rawalpindi, January 15, 2026: As a heavy spell of snowfall is forecast to hit Murree from January 17 to 21, District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanvir Sipra, has finalized ‘Mission Safe Winter’ by establishing a “Smart Security Perimeter” across the hill station to ensure public safety.

Following weather alerts issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) regarding a potential blizzard and severe cold wave, Murree Police has integrated its field force with an advanced surveillance system to safeguard human lives.

According to meteorological assessments, snowfall is expected to intensify on January 19 and 20, increasing the risk of road slipperiness and reduced visibility. In response, the DPO has ordered strict monitoring at all entry and exit points of Murree, while snow-clearing machinery has been placed on high alert along major roads.

In a special video message, Dr. Sipra urged tourists to prioritize safety and practice responsible tourism during the winter spell. He highlighted a critical safety precaution, advising visitors that when vehicles are parked or driven during snowfall with heaters on, a window must be kept slightly open to allow oxygen circulation and prevent the buildup of deadly carbon monoxide gas.

He further stressed that the use of snow chains is mandatory, warning that vehicles without chains will not be allowed to enter snow-covered routes. Tourists were also advised to keep fuel tanks full and carry sufficient warm clothing and dry food supplies.

Under the Smart Security Perimeter, Murree is being monitored round the clock through 181 Safe City cameras and thermal drones, ensuring real-time surveillance and rapid response in case of emergencies.

To facilitate the public and ensure accountability, the “DPO Direct” WhatsApp service (0311-1177553) will remain operational 24/7 for reporting traffic issues or lodging complaints regarding police conduct. In the event of any emergency or natural calamity, tourists have been urged to dial 15 immediately for prompt assistance.

“Our ultimate goal is the safety of every tourist visiting Murree, but this can only be achieved through public cooperation and strict adherence to precautionary measures,” DPO Murree said.
