Islamabad, January 21,2026: The Pakistan–Seychelles Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) on Wednesday convened its first briefing session at the Parliament House with the aim of familiarizing Members of Parliament with the current state of Pakistan–Seychelles relations and initiating structured parliamentary engagement with the Republic of Seychelles.

In her opening remarks, the Convener warmly welcomed the participants and acknowledged the foresight and vision of the Speaker of the National Assembly in establishing the Pakistan–Seychelles Parliamentary Friendship Group. She underscored the Speaker’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and expanding Pakistan’s engagement with friendly countries, emphasizing the importance of developing structured and sustained parliamentary linkages with Seychelles at an early stage.
Ms. Kiran Imran Dar proposed that, based on the proceedings of the briefing, the Mission of Pakistan in Mauritius—working in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—should convey to the Seychelles National Assembly the suggestion for establishing a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group. She also recommended arranging an interaction with the Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Karachi to further strengthen parliamentary outreach and coordination.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Mauritius, accredited to Seychelles, joined the meeting virtually and provided a detailed briefing on Seychelles’ political and economic landscape.
Members of the Group exchanged views on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and sought clarifications regarding trade potential, investment opportunities, and sector-specific collaboration. The discussion highlighted promising prospects in fisheries development, blue economy initiatives, value-added food products, rice, textiles, and canned goods.
The Members also suggested exploring cooperation in youth development and educational exchanges, training programmes, and scholarship opportunities, along with promoting people-to-people contacts and institutional linkages to foster long-term engagement.
The meeting concluded with a shared understanding on the need to progressively strengthen Pakistan–Seychelles relations through sustained parliamentary engagement, targeted economic cooperation, and continued coordination with relevant national and international stakeholders.
