Islamabad, January 27, 2026: The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, hosted a screening of the 2022 Japanese comedy-science fiction film Mondays: See You ‘This’ Week! at the Embassy premises, drawing appreciation from culture enthusiasts and movie lovers.
Directed by Ryō Takebayashi and written by Saeri Natsuo and Ryō Takebayashi, the English-subtitled film follows employees of a small advertising agency caught in a repeating work week. Through clever humor and a relatable narrative, the film explores themes of teamwork, routine, and breaking free from life’s “daily loop.”
The Embassy of Japan, with the support of The Japan Foundation, has been organizing Japanese film screenings in Pakistan for several decades, offering audiences an opportunity to gain insights into Japanese traditions, culture, lifestyle, and society.
Attendees praised the film for its creativity and cultural insight. Mr. Hammad, a student of the Japanese language, said the movie provided an engaging glimpse into Japan’s office culture and highlighted the strength of teamwork depicted in the story. Ms. Amna Asif, a Japanese language teacher, noted that the time-loop concept conveyed a meaningful lesson about living life without regrets.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Takane Kazumasa, Counsellor and Head of Culture and Public Affairs at the Embassy of Japan, emphasized the role of cinema in promoting cultural understanding. “Film acts as a vibrant cultural bridge, further strengthening the friendly bonds between Japan and Pakistan,” he said.
