Rome, February 17, 2026: Ambassador of Pakistan to Italy Ali Javed held a constructive meeting with Giulio Terzi Di Sant’Agata at the Senator’s chambers in Rome, where both sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral strategic cooperation, institutional mechanisms, and exchanges, along with key regional and global developments.

Senator Terzi, former Foreign Minister of Italy and current Chair of the Italian Senate Committee for EU Policy, welcomed Pakistan’s eighth tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He expressed confidence in enhanced Pakistan–Italy coordination on UN reforms through the Uniting for Consensus (UfC) platform, noting that both countries are co-founding partners.

The Italian Senator praised Pakistan’s principled stance on upholding the UN Charter and international law, as well as the longstanding tradition of mutual support for each other’s candidatures and coordinated positions at the United Nations. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s significant contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and its role in the global fight against terrorism, while expressing solidarity with the families of victims of the recent terrorist attack targeting worshippers near Islamabad.

Highlighting the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, Senator Terzi noted rising trade volumes, expanding leadership-level exchanges in political, defence, and security domains, and advanced technical cooperation in agriculture, marble, olive cultivation, archaeology, education, and culture. He also commended the growing Pakistani community and student population in Italy.

Ambassador Ali Javed described the 125-year-old Pakistan–Italy relationship as “historically seamless and trust-based,” appreciated Italy’s consistently principled support for Pakistan at the UN and the EU, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to further deepen strategic cooperation.

The Ambassador briefed the Senator on Pakistan’s efforts to curb illegal migration, citing declining numbers in 2024 and 2025, and outlined preparations for the first session of the Quad for Migration (Q4M), bringing together interior ministers of Pakistan, Greece, Italy, and Spain in Rome.

Welcoming the May 7, 2025 signing of the MoU for Migration and Labor Mobility, Senator Terzi highlighted measures to address exploitation of irregular workers by ensuring legal and social protection, while reaffirming support for Pakistani students through facilitation of student visas.

Pakistanis residing in Italy are estimated at over 300,000, including around 4,000 students, while bilateral trade crossed $2.3 billion in 2025. The Q4M initiative, launched by Pakistan, aims to promote regular migration and deter irregular migration between Pakistan and the European Union.
