Islamabad, October 30, 2024 – In a significant development for government employees, a private member’s bill was introduced in the National Assembly on Tuesday, proposing a ban on re-employment and service extensions for retired civil servants.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Sahibzada Sibghatullah introduced the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seeks to amend Section 14 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973. The proposed amendment aims to establish a transparent retirement policy by prohibiting the reemployment of retired civil servants in any capacity.

The bill promotes greater opportunities for younger individuals, supports merit-based promotions, and reinforces the principle of finality in recruitment. It also underscores the importance of good governance and effective civil service operations. The bill has been forwarded to the relevant standing committee for further review.
