Islamabad, October 30, 2024 – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Sania Nishtar has resigned from her Senate seat, according to media reports on Wednesday. Sources indicate that her resignation follows her recent appointment to an international organization based in Geneva.

Nishtar, elected as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021, is a physician and currently serves as the CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, a position she assumed in 2024. She previously held the role of Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with federal ministerial status, overseeing the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Ehsaas Programme.

In 2013, Nishtar also served in the interim federal cabinet, where she oversaw public health, education, and science portfolios.
