Nicosia, March 9: Hakan Fidan, the Foreign Minister of Türkiye, has termed the isolation imposed on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as “unjust and inhumane,” urging greater support for the Turkish Cypriot community.

Speaking after the Informal Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) held in Nicosia, Fidan said the participants discussed key regional developments, including the evolving situation in the Middle East.

He noted that OTS member states expressed serious concern over recent developments in the Middle East and emphasized that they are closely monitoring the situation. According to Fidan, the member states also stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from escalating or spreading further across the region.

Addressing the Cyprus issue, the Turkish foreign minister recalled that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has held observer status in the Organisation of Turkic States since 2022, describing it as a strong demonstration of unity and solidarity within the Turkic world.

Fidan emphasized that the international isolation faced by Turkish Cypriots should come to an end. He described the restrictions as unjust and inhumane, stressing that Turkish Cypriots are an inseparable part of the Turkic world.

He further said that supporting initiatives aimed at lifting these isolations is not only a political objective but also a historical responsibility for Turkic states.

The meeting of the OTS foreign ministers focused on strengthening cooperation among member states while also reviewing regional and international developments affecting the Turkic world.
