Karachi, April 29, 2026: Pakistan Test team head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed on Wednesday responded to criticism over his appointment, saying he remains focused and optimistic about guiding the national side despite outside noise.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the team’s training camp, Sarfaraz said differing opinions from former cricketers did not affect his approach.

“Former players and colleagues have their own opinions. I am very positive about making the most of this new opportunity,” he said.

He expressed confidence in his support staff, including Umar Gul, Asad Shafiq, Grant Luden and Abdul Saad, adding that the management was fully committed to steering the team towards success.

The Pakistan squad is currently training at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle.

The first Test will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from May 8 to 12, followed by the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from May 16 to 20.

Commenting on Babar Azam’s return to form in T20 cricket, Sarfaraz praised the batter’s technique and resilience.

“It is good to see Babar scoring runs again, especially with a strong technical comeback. He looks solid. Once he joins us, we will assess his role in the Test setup as well,” he said.

Babar, who recently led Peshawar Zalmi to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 final, is expected to join the Test squad after May 3. Khurram Shehzad and Shan Masood will also link up with the team following the conclusion of their PSL commitments.

Pakistan are currently placed fifth in the World Test Championship standings with 12 points, having played two matches so far in the cycle against South Africa national cricket team at home in October 2025.

Later this year, Pakistan are scheduled to play Test series against England national cricket team, Sri Lanka national cricket team and West Indies cricket team as they aim to improve their standing in the championship.
