Zardari congratulates Iraq’s Prime Minister-Designate, calls for stronger economic cooperation

Sanya, May 1, 2026: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday held a telephone conversation with Ali Falih Khadim Al-Zaidi and congratulated him on his nomination as Prime Minister-Designate of Iraq.

President Zardari, who is currently on an official visit to Sanya in China’s Hainan province, conveyed his best wishes to Al-Zaidi for the successful formation of a stable government.

According to an official statement, the president said the appointment reflected the confidence reposed in Al-Zaidi’s leadership at an important time for Iraq.

During the conversation, President Zardari noted that Pakistan and Iraq share longstanding brotherly relations rooted in mutual respect, shared values and close cooperation.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in multiple sectors.

The president highlighted the vast potential for enhanced economic engagement between the two countries, particularly in trade, investment, energy cooperation, infrastructure development, agriculture and renewable energy.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening academic collaboration and promoting people-to-people exchanges to support a durable long-term partnership.

Prime Minister-Designate Ali Falih Khadim Al-Zaidi thanked President Zardari for his warm wishes and invited him to visit Iraq at a mutually convenient time.
