Islamabad, May 3, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom while urging journalists to uphold truth, professionalism, and responsible reporting in the digital age.

In his message on World Press Freedom Day, the prime minister said peace in today’s world is achieved not only through diplomacy but also through constructive dialogue and responsible communication.

He said Pakistan remains a peace-loving country that prioritises dialogue and negotiation in resolving disputes and conflicts, adding that international media had acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic efforts.

Highlighting the role of national media during critical moments, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistani media demonstrated remarkable responsibility during major national developments, including Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.

According to the prime minister, the media played an important role in strengthening national unity, supporting a coordinated response, and effectively presenting Pakistan’s position with clarity and accuracy during challenging times.

He also paid tribute to journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty, acknowledging their sacrifices in pursuit of truth and public awareness.

The prime minister warned that the spread of fake news and organised disinformation campaigns poses a serious threat to national cohesion and global credibility.

“I urge all journalists to uphold the highest standards of verification, integrity, and professionalism, so that in this fast-paced digital era, competition never comes at the cost of truth,” he said.

Reiterating the government’s support for an independent media, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said his administration remains committed to ensuring a conducive environment for media organisations and journalists to operate freely and responsibly.

He expressed hope that collective efforts would help build a strong, peaceful, and globally respected Pakistan.
