Sialkot, May 12, 2026: Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Ethiopia, visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Tuesday to discuss prospects for enhanced bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
Upon his arrival, the ambassador was warmly received by Senior Vice President of the chamber Murad Arshad along with executive members of the SCCI.
Addressing the business community, Ambassador Oumer Hussien Oba praised Sialkot’s industrial strength and highlighted the broad opportunities available for expanding economic collaboration between the two countries.
The envoy outlined Ethiopia’s competitive advantages for Pakistani investors, including its large population, skilled workforce, access to affordable green energy, and strategic regional connectivity.
He stated that Ethiopia’s investment-friendly environment is supported by incentives and tax exemptions introduced under the country’s Homegrown Economic Reforms, which he said had helped address macroeconomic challenges while improving productivity and employment generation.
The ambassador encouraged Pakistani entrepreneurs and industrialists to visit Ethiopia and explore opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and information and communication technology (ICT).
During the session, Syed Ahtesham Mazhar thanked the ambassador for his visit and expressed confidence that Sialkot’s industrial sector could play a significant role in strengthening business-to-business relations between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session focusing on ways to deepen economic and commercial ties between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
