Islamabad, May 12, 2026: Under the “Read Japan Project” launched by The Nippon Foundation, the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan donated 168 English-language books to Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to promote greater understanding of Japan through literature and academic exchange.

During a ceremony held in Islamabad on Tuesday, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi formally handed over the collection to AIOU Vice-Chancellor Nasir Mahmood.

The donated books cover a wide range of subjects, including Japan’s history, politics, economy, security, international relations, philosophy, literature, language, and culture.

On the same occasion, the Japan Pakistan Advancement Center (JPAC) was officially inaugurated to promote Japanese language learning, cultural and academic exchanges, as well as employment and entrepreneurship opportunities between Pakistan and Japan.

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain also attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Akamatsu said books serve as “bridges of knowledge” that help readers understand Japan’s perspectives and inspire innovation and new ideas in Pakistan. He described JPAC as an important initiative for strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood thanked the Nippon Foundation and the Embassy of Japan for the donation, saying the books would help Pakistani students gain deeper insight into Japan and contribute to stronger bilateral relations.

He also expressed commitment to developing outstanding students and enhancing cooperation with Japan through the newly established JPAC.

Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain appreciated JPAC’s initiatives and expressed hope that the center would further promote friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Japan.
