Sylhet, May 20, 2026: Pakistan slipped to eighth place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 standings after suffering a 78-run defeat against Bangladesh in the second Test in Sylhet, as the hosts completed a historic 2-0 series whitewash.
Following the victory, Bangladesh climbed to fifth position in the WTC standings with two wins, one defeat and one draw from four matches. The team now has 28 points and a win percentage of 58.33, moving ahead of India in the table.
India dropped to sixth place with four wins, four defeats and one draw from nine Tests, collecting 52 points with a win percentage of 48.15.
Pakistan, meanwhile, have managed just one win and three defeats from four matches, leaving them with four points and a win percentage of 8.33.
Australia continue to lead the WTC standings with seven wins and one defeat from eight matches, earning 84 points and a win percentage of 87.50. New Zealand and South Africa occupy second and third positions respectively.
Bangladesh sealed the series during the morning session on the final day at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, with their bowlers taking the remaining three Pakistan wickets to complete a comprehensive victory.
Chasing a challenging target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs as spinner Taijul Islam delivered a match-winning performance.
Pakistan’s resistance was led by Mohammad Rizwan, who scored a fighting 94 off 166 deliveries, including 10 boundaries.
Sajid Khan also contributed 28 runs from 36 balls, striking five fours as Pakistan attempted a late comeback.
Taijul Islam finished with outstanding figures of 6 for 120 in 34.2 overs. Nahid Rana claimed two wickets, while Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up one wicket each in a disciplined bowling effort.
