Islamabad, June 8, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review Pakistan’s Auto and Auto Parts Policy, with a special focus on accelerating the country’s transition towards Electric Vehicles (EVs).
During the meeting, participants were briefed on a range of measures aimed at promoting EV adoption, strengthening domestic manufacturing, and supporting industry growth through enabling government policies. The proposed initiatives are also expected to create new employment opportunities, enhance exports, and contribute to Pakistan’s efforts to mitigate climate change.
Addressing the meeting, Dar emphasized the need to develop a competitive, innovative, and sustainable automotive ecosystem capable of driving economic growth, expanding industrial capacity, generating skilled employment, and advancing environmental sustainability.
He stressed that a future-ready automotive sector would play a vital role in modernizing Pakistan’s economy while helping the country meet its climate and energy transition goals.
To ensure a comprehensive and consultative policy-making process, the meeting decided to constitute a subcommittee tasked with engaging all relevant stakeholders and finalizing recommendations for the draft policy.
The meeting was attended by the federal ministers for Power, Petroleum, and Climate Change; the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production; ministers of state for Finance and Railways; Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa; secretaries of Commerce, Industries and Production, and Petroleum; the National Coordinator of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCMC); senior officials from relevant ministries; and leading policy experts and economists.
