Islamabad, November 13, 2024 – Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, has demanded the restoration of the rule of law in Pakistan, advocating for the release of all Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan, whom he claims are unjustly detained. Speaking on a private TV channel, Ayub reiterated PTI’s call for fresh elections, emphasizing that the party seeks no concessions or favors, as he believes justice will naturally follow once fairness is restored.

Ayub characterized the charges against Imran Khan as fabricated and voiced frustration over being unable to contact the former Prime Minister for two months. He noted that he had only heard of a potential “final call” from Khan through the media and would consult with PTI leadership on the party’s response.

The opposition leader detailed his own legal challenges, stating that he spends 95% of his time attending court hearings for over 100 cases and faces potential arrest warrants if he fails to appear. He accused intelligence agencies of attempting to create divisions within PTI by pressuring its members.

Discussing the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Ayub mentioned that PTI had issued show-cause notices to members who lost contact during this period, assuring that those found innocent would be exonerated. He also criticized a parliamentary committee for overstepping its mandate.

Ayub confirmed that Mahmoud Achakzai has been authorized to negotiate with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and other political parties. He further alleged that the events of May 9th were orchestrated, citing the absence of CCTV footage as evidence, and announced a petition against the alleged illegal detention of PTI members in Adiala Jail.
