Islamabad, June 12, 2026: Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ali Khan met Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador to the Inter-Parliamentary Conference (ISC), in Islamabad on Friday to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada.
The meeting focused on enhancing parliamentary cooperation, expanding trade and investment ties, and promoting greater people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
Both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the longstanding and cordial relationship between Pakistan and Canada. Discussions highlighted the importance of cooperation in parliamentary diplomacy, economic development, education, cultural exchanges, and institutional partnerships.
Misbah Khar underscored the role of parliamentary engagement as a key pillar in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening democratic institutions. She emphasized the need for greater interaction between the parliamentary bodies of both countries through the exchange of delegations, legislative experiences, and institutional best practices to promote effective governance and democratic values.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to enhance bilateral trade and investment, noting that stronger economic linkages and increased business-to-business engagement could unlock significant potential for growth and cooperation.
They stressed the importance of facilitating commercial partnerships and expanding collaboration in key sectors, including education, agriculture, renewable energy, and sustainable resource development.
People-to-people contacts and the contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada also featured prominently in the discussions. Misbah Khar appreciated the positive role played by Pakistani-Canadians in strengthening bilateral ties and serving as a bridge between the two nations.
