Islamabad, June 18,2026: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Dr. Tariq Saleem has announced that, on the appeal of Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, protest demonstrations will be held at all district headquarters across Punjab on Friday, June 19, demanding substantial relief in petroleum prices and other essential commodities. The demonstrations will take place in Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Talagang, Khushab, Chakwal, Jhelum, Attock, Mianwali, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Murree, and other districts of the province. Provincial and district leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami will address the gatherings and present the party’s demands regarding inflation and economic relief.
Dr. Tariq Saleem said that the government must immediately reduce the price of petrol to Rs. 225 per litre and abolish the petroleum levy imposed on fuel. He stated that minor reductions of Rs. 10 or Rs. 20 per litre would not provide meaningful relief to the public, which is already struggling under the burden of inflation, high utility bills, and rising living costs. He further demanded a significant reduction in the prices of diesel and electricity, emphasizing that citizens should benefit from changing global and regional economic conditions. He said that after recent economic hardships and crises, the people of Pakistan deserve direct subsidies and practical relief measures from the government. The Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab chief urged the government to bring the prices of essential commodities back to the level of February 28, reduce unnecessary taxes and levies, and adopt policies that ease the burden on ordinary citizens. He criticized the government for shifting the cost of economic challenges onto the public instead of reducing its own expenditures and administrative expenses. Dr. Tariq Saleem said that inflation, unemployment, and increasing utility costs have severely affected the lives of millions of Pakistanis. He stressed that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its peaceful democratic struggle for the rights of the people and will raise a strong voice against policies that increase public hardship. He called upon citizens to participate in the protest demonstrations and join the collective demand for economic relief, fair taxation, and people-friendly policies.
