Islamabad, August 5, 2026: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced nationwide protests, demonstrations and sit-ins from August 7 against rising inflation, increased electricity and petroleum prices, petroleum levy and what it described as unjust taxation, while calling for constitutional governance, moral reform and public welfare.
The announcement was made during a two-day Tazkiya (Self-Purification) Training Camp organized by Jamaat-e-Islami District Murree for its members, workers and local residents.
The camp was addressed by former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq, Deputy Ameer Liaquat Baloch, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Dr. Osama Razi, Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami North Punjab Dr. Tariq Saleem, Deputy Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Azhar Iqbal Hassan, Sheikh Usman Farooq, Rasul Khan Babar, noted religious scholar Professor Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman Asim, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Murree Ghulam Ahmed Abbasi, and District Secretary General Hammad Mahmood Abbasi.
Addressing the participants, the speakers said the growing challenges of intolerance, hatred, corruption, injustice and moral decline could only be addressed by following the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah, promoting self-purification and fostering honest, trustworthy and principled leadership.
They said Pakistan’s security, stability and sustainable development depended on the promotion of integrity, justice, tolerance and the effective implementation of the Constitution in accordance with the principles of the Quran and Sunnah.
The speakers alleged that successive governments had pushed the country into multiple political and economic crises through constitutional violations, corruption, nepotism and disregard for public rights. They maintained that the public was facing severe hardships due to inflation, unemployment, increasing electricity, gas and petroleum prices, and excessive taxation.
Announcing a nationwide protest movement from August 7, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders urged people to actively participate in demonstrations and sit-ins to demand relief from inflation, lower utility costs and greater protection of citizens’ rights.
The speakers also stressed the need for strengthening democratic institutions through transparent elections, an independent judiciary, empowered local governments and the rule of law. They said citizens across all four provinces continued to face inadequate public services while corruption and administrative inefficiency remained major obstacles to national progress.
