Islamabad, June 18, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday held their first telephone conversation since the signing of the historic Islamabad Peace Deal between the United States and Iran, reaffirming their commitment to regional peace and stronger Pakistan-Iran relations.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the telephone call lasted more than thirty minutes and focused on the implications of the landmark agreement, bilateral relations and future cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Pezeshkian, the Iranian leadership and the people of Iran on the successful signing of the peace agreement, describing it as a historic milestone that would help restore peace and stability in the region.

The Prime Minister said the agreement would not only contribute to regional security but would also support Iran’s reconstruction and development efforts while creating new opportunities to strengthen Pakistan-Iran cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

He also conveyed his respectful regards to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.

Commending Tehran’s decision to pursue diplomacy and sign the peace accord, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed confidence in the next phase of negotiations and assured President Pezeshkian of Pakistan’s continued support as a brotherly neighboring country.

The Prime Minister reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to further expanding bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, connectivity, energy and regional stability.

President Pezeshkian, on behalf of the Iranian nation and in his personal capacity, thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their critical role in facilitating the mediation process that ultimately led to the agreement.

The Iranian president praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, describing them as sincere, constructive and instrumental in steering the negotiations toward a successful conclusion.

He said Iran would always remember Pakistan’s support and positive role during a challenging period and expressed appreciation for Islamabad’s commitment to peace and dialogue.

President Pezeshkian also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Pakistan and emphasized Iran’s desire to further strengthen bilateral relations across all areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders agreed to exchange visits to each other’s capitals at the earliest opportunity in order to advance bilateral cooperation and coordinate on regional issues.

They also agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days as efforts continue to build on the momentum generated by the Islamabad Peace Deal and to further enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.

The call underscored the close and historic ties between the two neighboring countries and reflected a shared commitment to regional peace, stability and prosperity following the breakthrough agreement reached in Islamabad.
