Islamabad, August 5, 2026: Pakistan and Denmark on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) Programme in the energy sector, marking a significant step towards strengthening bilateral collaboration on clean energy, renewable power and sustainable energy planning.

The agreement was signed by Federal Secretary for Energy (Power Division) Dr. Fakhr-e-Alam and Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Maja Derrous Mortensen, during a ceremony witnessed by Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.

Following the signing ceremony, the federal minister held a high-level meeting with the Danish ambassador to discuss the future direction of Pakistan-Denmark cooperation in the energy sector and explore new opportunities for expanding bilateral collaboration.

The Strategic Sector Cooperation Programme builds on the progress achieved under the Danish Energy Transition Initiative (DETI), launched in 2021 to support Pakistan’s transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable and resilient energy system.

Under the government-to-government partnership, Denmark will provide technical expertise and institutional support to Pakistan in key areas of the power sector, drawing on its internationally recognized experience in renewable energy and green technologies.

The two countries will collaborate on developing long-term energy planning, accelerating the integration of renewable energy into Pakistan’s national grid and improving industrial energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the country’s climate goals.

The initiative reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Denmark to advancing sustainable development, strengthening energy security and promoting low-carbon economic growth through innovation, technology transfer and institutional cooperation.
