Ankara, July 13, 2026: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir arrived in Türkiye on Monday for a two-day official visit aimed at further strengthening defence and strategic cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
According to state media, the field marshal received a warm welcome upon his arrival and is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Türkiye’s military and political leadership to discuss matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence collaboration.
The visit comes a month after Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel visited Pakistan and held talks with Field Marshal Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
During those discussions, the two military leaders reviewed regional security developments, exchanged views on professional matters and explored opportunities to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During his visit to Pakistan, General Tokel also called on Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where both sides discussed professional matters and the evolving regional maritime security environment.
The Turkish commander later met Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters to discuss bilateral military cooperation and other issues of professional interest.
The ISPR said General Tokel praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and stability.
Pakistan and Türkiye enjoy longstanding fraternal relations, supported by close cooperation in defence, strategic affairs, politics, trade and economic development.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul, where the two leaders reaffirmed the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the two countries and pledged to expand economic cooperation, setting a target of increasing bilateral trade to $5 billion.
