Islamabad, July 16,2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar arrived in Shanghai, China, on Thursday for a two-day official visit during which Pakistan will become a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar is visiting Shanghai from July 16-17 to participate in the signing ceremony for the Agreement on the Establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). He will sign the agreement on behalf of Pakistan, formally joining the organization as a founding member.

During the visit, the deputy prime minister will also attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) on July 17. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the conference.

Upon his arrival in Shanghai, Dar was received by Wu Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor of Shanghai, along with Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in China, Aizaz Khan, and Pakistan’s Consul General in Shanghai, Shahzad Ahmad Khan.

Pakistan’s participation in the establishment of WAICO reflects its growing engagement in global cooperation on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, while reaffirming its commitment to promoting innovation and international collaboration in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
