Islamabad, July 22, 2026: Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned the continued threats issued by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, warning that such actions endanger regional security and disrupt global trade.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said the threats undermine freedom of navigation, challenge the rules-based maritime order and jeopardise the uninterrupted flow of international commerce.
Pakistan described threats against commercial shipping and vessels engaged in lawful trade with Saudi Arabia as unacceptable and contrary to established principles of international law, expressing particular concern over reports targeting ships involved in legitimate commercial activities with the Kingdom.
The Foreign Office reaffirmed that any hostile act against Pakistani-flagged vessels or Pakistan’s maritime interests would be regarded as a grave threat to the country’s national security and sovereign interests.
It stated that, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defence, to safeguard its maritime assets and national interests.
The statement also voiced deep concern over attempts to draw Saudi Arabia further into the ongoing Middle East conflict, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity.
While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and regional de-escalation, Pakistan urged all parties to respect international law and ensure the safety and security of international maritime shipping.
