Islamabad, July 29, 2026: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with China, welcoming increased Chinese investment in key sectors to support economic growth and regional connectivity.

He expressed these views during a meeting at Parliament House with a high-level delegation comprising representatives of the Tabani Group and Shandong Hi-Speed Group Co., Ltd. (SDHS), one of China’s largest state-owned infrastructure and investment enterprises.

The SDHS delegation was led by its Chairman Xu Xiang and included Wang Zhenrong, Country Director, and Humza Tabani, Chairman of the Tabani Group.

The meeting focused on expanding Pakistan-China economic cooperation and exploring new investment opportunities in infrastructure, transportation, energy, logistics, industrial development and other strategic sectors.

Welcoming the delegation, Chairman Senate Gilani described Pakistan-China relations as an enduring and time-tested friendship founded on mutual trust, respect and unwavering support. He said China had consistently stood by Pakistan during difficult times and that the people of Pakistan deeply valued the longstanding partnership.

He appreciated the contribution of Chinese companies and investors to Pakistan’s economic development, noting that their investments were creating employment opportunities, promoting sustainable growth and contributing to the prosperity of both countries.

Gilani highlighted the transformative role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), calling it a landmark initiative that has strengthened regional connectivity, economic integration and long-term development.

Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral economic relations, he said trade, investment and economic cooperation between Pakistan and China would continue to expand, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for foreign investment.

The Senate chairman also underscored the importance of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), describing it as a key national initiative aimed at promoting investment, strengthening economic stability and creating employment opportunities. He said the Senate remained committed to supporting legislation and policies that foster transparency, facilitate investment and promote sustainable economic growth.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the chairman on Shandong Hi-Speed Group’s global operations, highlighting its expertise in transport infrastructure, high-speed rail, expressways, energy, logistics and industrial development. The delegation also shared the company’s plans to expand its investment portfolio in Pakistan and reiterated its commitment to supporting the country’s economic progress through long-term partnerships.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their resolve to deepen Pakistan-China cooperation and promote mutually beneficial investment initiatives aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, economic development and shared prosperity.

Advisor to the Chairman Senate Misbah Khar also attended the meeting.
