Islamabad, July 31, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding brotherly relations with Azerbaijan as he received a farewell call from the outgoing Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Khazar Farhadov, at the Prime Minister’s House.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch were also present during the meeting.
The Prime Minister praised Ambassador Farhadov for his dedicated efforts to deepen Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations during his tenure, acknowledging his role in expanding bilateral cooperation across the political, trade, economic, defence, cultural and people-to-people spheres.
He also appreciated the envoy’s contribution to the launch of direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, describing it as an important step in enhancing connectivity and strengthening ties between the two countries.
Conveying his warm regards to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Shehbaz recalled his multiple visits to Azerbaijan over the past two and a half years, as well as President Aliyev’s visit to Pakistan in July 2024. He expressed confidence that the strong foundation established during Ambassador Farhadov’s tenure would continue to advance bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
The Prime Minister wished the outgoing ambassador success in his future diplomatic assignments.
Ambassador Farhadov thanked the Prime Minister for the support, hospitality and warmth extended by the Government and people of Pakistan throughout his diplomatic mission. He described his posting in Pakistan as a cherished chapter of his diplomatic career and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to further strengthening its strategic partnership with Pakistan.
During the meeting, the ambassador also presented the Prime Minister with a book based on his family’s experiences of living in Pakistan.
