Algiers, August 4, 2026: Algeria’s Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, General Saïd Chanegriha, has extended heartfelt congratulations to all officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers and civilian employees of the People’s National Army on the occasion of the country’s National Day of the People’s National Army.
In a message issued on the occasion, General Chanegriha expressed his best wishes for Algeria’s continued prosperity, stability and progress, hoping that the National Day would bring blessings, strength and success to the country and its armed forces.
He said the National Day of the People’s National Army was established by the President of Algeria, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, in recognition of the historic role played by the People’s National Army, the successor to the National Liberation Army, in safeguarding the achievements of the Algerian state and protecting the country’s sovereignty, security and stability.
General Chanegriha said the occasion serves as a lasting symbol of honour for the country’s military institution and reflects the deep bond between the armed forces and the Algerian people. He described this relationship as a cornerstone of national unity and a shield against any attempt to undermine Algeria’s security or hinder its development.
Reflecting on the country’s history, the army chief said that after the end of the War of Liberation, the People’s National Army assumed its responsibilities with dedication by helping establish the institutions of independent Algeria, defending the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting its natural resources despite numerous challenges.
He noted that Algeria inherited limited resources and the destructive legacy of the colonial era but, through the determination and sacrifices of its people, succeeded in rebuilding the country and achieving significant progress within a relatively short period, earning a respected position at both the continental and international levels.
General Chanegriha said the People’s National Army continues to strengthen its operational capabilities by enhancing its human resources, military preparedness and technological capacity while carrying out its constitutional responsibilities across the country’s borders and national territory.
He expressed satisfaction with the armed forces’ operational readiness and praised the successes achieved in combating terrorism and other security-related crimes, describing these accomplishments as the result of the collective efforts of military personnel and the country’s security institutions.
Paying tribute to Algeria’s national heroes, General Chanegriha urged the nation to remember the sacrifices of the martyrs who gave their lives during the popular resistance and the War of Liberation, as well as those who lost their lives while fulfilling their national duty in defence of Algeria’s security, stability and prosperity.
Concluding his message, General Chanegriha congratulated all members of the People’s National Army on the National Day and called upon them to continue serving the nation with sincerity, dedication and professionalism in pursuit of Algeria’s national objectives and lasting peace and stability.
