Port of Spain, August 5, 2026: Pakistan secured a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second and final Test at Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday, comfortably chasing a modest target of 75 runs to level the two-match series 1-1.
The visitors completed the chase shortly after lunch on the fourth day when captain Babar Azam sealed the victory in style by smashing left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican for his second consecutive six.
Pakistan reached the target after losing only two wickets, with Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam remaining unbeaten on 24 each. Shafique, who had earlier anchored Pakistan’s first innings with a magnificent unbeaten 160, once again played a composed knock from 51 deliveries, while Babar struck two fours and two sixes in his unbeaten innings.
Resuming the day requiring just 18 more runs with eight wickets in hand, Pakistan added the remaining runs without difficulty despite an early setback in the chase.
The visitors had made a shaky start after Jayden Seales dismissed Imam-ul-Haq for nine in the fifth over with the score on 15. Abdullah Shafique then added 27 runs for the second wicket with emerging opener Azan Awais before the latter was bowled by Shamar Joseph for 18.
Babar Azam joined Shafique at the crease and the pair guided Pakistan safely to victory, securing the team’s first away Test win since 2023.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s bowlers wrapped up the West Indies second innings for just 117 after the hosts resumed at 103 for six overnight.
Brandon King, who suffered a lower-back injury on the third day, did not return to bat, leaving the home side without one of their key top-order batters.
Left-arm spinner Ali Usman continued his impressive spell by dismissing Kemar Roach for a duck soon after play resumed. Justin Greaves, who carried the home side’s hopes overnight, managed only three runs before falling to fast bowler Mohammad Ali, while Shamar Joseph was dismissed for nine by Usman as the innings folded in 46.1 overs.
Sajid Khan and Ali Usman starred with the ball, claiming four wickets each to dismantle the West Indies batting line-up on a turning surface. Mohammad Ali contributed one wicket as Pakistan’s bowlers dominated throughout the innings.
Pakistan had taken control of the match on the third day after posting 387 in their first innings, thanks largely to Abdullah Shafique’s career-defining unbeaten 160. The bowlers then exploited the deteriorating pitch brilliantly to dismiss the West Indies cheaply and set up a straightforward chase.
The victory enabled Pakistan to draw the two-match series after suffering a 90-run defeat in the opening Test at Tarouba, providing a timely boost ahead of their upcoming assignments away from home.
