Islamabad, August 26, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad that resulted in the deaths of 14 newborn babies.

In a condolence message, Gilani extended his heartfelt sympathies to the parents and bereaved families, saying the loss of innocent lives had left the entire nation deeply saddened.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the bereaved families patience, strength and courage to bear the irreparable loss.

The chairman stressed the need to ensure effective safety measures, comprehensive fire-safety systems and adequate emergency response arrangements at hospitals to prevent such tragedies in the future.

He said any negligence or lapse in safety arrangements, particularly where human lives are at stake, was unacceptable.

Gilani urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident and take effective and practical measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
