Islamabad, August 27, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband on Thursday agreed to establish a structured mechanism for formal talks between the two foreign ministries to strengthen bilateral relations and regularly review progress in key areas of cooperation.
The understanding was reached during delegation-level talks between Dar and Miliband in London during the Pakistani foreign minister’s official visit to the United Kingdom.
The two sides reviewed the full spectrum of Pakistan-UK bilateral relations and agreed that the proposed mechanism would provide a regular platform to discuss all areas of cooperation and enhance coordination on matters of mutual interest.
They underscored the importance of sustained high-level engagement and closer coordination to further consolidate longstanding ties between the two countries.
The ministers also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, including the evolving situation in the Middle East.
Dar briefed his British counterpart on Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts in the region and progress achieved through Islamabad’s engagements aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation.
Miliband appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and facilitation efforts in promoting dialogue, diplomacy and stability in the Middle East.
The discussions also covered developments concerning the Indus Waters Treaty and the broader regional security situation.
Dar highlighted what Pakistan described as India’s persistent violations of its international obligations and stressed the importance of respecting international law and treaty commitments.
The deputy prime minister also expressed serious concern over terrorist threats emanating from Afghan soil and the activities of militant groups operating from Afghanistan, which he said posed a threat to Pakistan’s peace and security.
Both sides emphasised the importance of sustained engagement to promote peace, stability and cooperation in the region and beyond.
The two ministers also recognised the important role played by the Pakistani diaspora in strengthening the longstanding relationship and people-to-people links between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The agreement to establish a structured foreign-ministry dialogue mechanism is expected to provide greater continuity to bilateral consultations and facilitate regular review of cooperation across a broad range of political, economic and regional issues
