Islamabad, November 24,2024- Pakistan has reported three new cases of polio, further raising concerns about the virus’s resurgence, according to sources within the Ministry of Health.

With these new cases, the total number of children affected by polio in the country has risen to 55. The sources revealed that two of the newly affected children are from Balochistan, while one is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This brings the total number of polio cases in Balochistan to 26 and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 14. Additionally, Sindh has reported 13 cases so far, while Islamabad and Punjab have each recorded one case.

Health officials in Balochistan confirmed that the new cases in the province were reported from the districts of Zhob and Jafarabad. This marks the third polio case from Zhob and the second from Jafarabad this year.

Earlier, six cases were reported from Qila Abdullah, three from Quetta, and two each from Qila Saifullah, Pishin, and Chaman. One case each has also been reported from the districts of Dera Bugti, Chagai, Jhal Magsi, Kharan, Nushki, and Loralai.

The rising number of polio cases underscores the need for intensified vaccination campaigns and public awareness efforts to combat the virus.
