Tehran, September 21, 2026: Iran has thanked Pakistan’s military and civilian leadership for its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region during a meeting between the interior ministers of the two countries in Tehran.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who arrived in Tehran on Monday, met his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni and discussed bilateral relations, the latest regional situation and cooperation between the two interior ministries.
Momeni expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s continued efforts to establish peace in the region and specifically thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in advancing regional peace and stability.
“We are grateful for Pakistan’s continuous efforts to establish peace in the region,” Momeni said, describing Naqvi’s visit as beneficial.
The two ministers also reviewed progress in ongoing cooperation between their respective interior ministries across various sectors.
Naqvi said Pakistan-Iran relations would become stronger in the coming days and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to further expanding bilateral cooperation.
Naqvi’s visit comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement over the conflict involving Iran and the United States. Pakistan has previously played a facilitating role in efforts aimed at de-escalation and dialogue between the two sides.
The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed in June, established a framework for US-Iran dialogue, with Pakistan and Qatar participating as mediators. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has said Islamabad remains engaged in efforts to resolve the crisis through restraint, dialogue and diplomacy.
The latest meeting also follows Momeni’s official visit to Pakistan in July, when the two sides discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation. During that visit, Pakistan said Momeni had expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir that contributed to the Islamabad MoU.
