Islamabad, October 29,2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on the Export of Surplus Sugar to finalise policy guidelines for sugar exports.
According to the Foreign Office, the committee reviewed the final sugar stock position ahead of the upcoming crushing season to determine the available surplus while ensuring adequate reserves for domestic consumption across the country.
Ishaq Dar emphasised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s instructions to protect domestic consumers, saying that facilitating sugar exports was intended to support local farmers, strengthen the sugar industry and increase foreign exchange reserves.
However, he stressed that maintaining stable prices in the domestic market remained a priority.
The deputy prime minister directed the relevant authorities to establish robust monitoring mechanisms to ensure an uninterrupted supply chain and prevent market distortions during the export process.
The meeting was attended by the minister for national food security and research and climate change, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the commerce secretary, representatives of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) and the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), and senior officials from relevant ministries.
