Islamabad, November 8,2026: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah have paid rich tribute to the Poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, on his 149th birth anniversary, highlighting the enduring relevance of his poetry, philosophy and vision for Pakistan.
In his message, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that Allama Iqbal’s poetry and intellectual legacy awakened the Muslims of the subcontinent to the values of self-respect, freedom, unity and national consciousness.
He said Iqbal was not merely a great poet but a visionary thinker whose ideas profoundly influenced the intellectual and political awakening of the Muslims of the subcontinent. His historic Allahabad Address articulated a political vision that became an important intellectual foundation for the struggle leading to the creation of Pakistan.
The Speaker said Iqbal envisioned a society based on justice, dignity, equality and moral responsibility, where individuals could realise their intellectual, spiritual and moral potential.
Highlighting Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi (selfhood), he said it remained one of his most powerful and enduring messages, emphasising character-building, self-confidence, discipline, courage and a strong sense of purpose guided by high moral values.
He stressed that Iqbal’s message was particularly relevant to the youth, urging young Pakistanis to make education, research, innovation, hard work and character-building essential parts of their lives and contribute positively to national development.
Ayaz Sadiq said Pakistan’s progress required a collective commitment to democratic values, constitutionalism, rule of law, tolerance, social justice and national unity. He reaffirmed that Parliament would continue to play its constitutional role in strengthening democracy, promoting public welfare and advancing the vision of a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Pakistan.
He observed that remembering Allama Iqbal should not remain confined to ceremonies and commemorations; rather, his teachings must be reflected in individual character, public conduct and national life.
Deputy Speaker also pays tribute
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also paid rich tribute to Allama Iqbal, describing him as one of the most distinguished intellectual, philosophical and literary figures in the history of the subcontinent.
He said Iqbal’s poetry instilled among the Muslims of the subcontinent a renewed sense of self-respect, confidence, dignity and purpose, encouraging individuals and nations to recognise their potential and overcome intellectual and moral stagnation.
The Deputy Speaker said Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi, coupled with his emphasis on knowledge, character, courage and collective responsibility, held particular significance for the younger generation.
He urged young people to study Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy not merely as part of their literary heritage but also as a source of guidance for personal development, intellectual growth and national service.
He said Pakistan’s future depended on a young generation equipped with knowledge, integrity, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility towards the country.
The Deputy Speaker emphasised that the true tribute to Allama Iqbal would be to uphold the values of unity, faith, discipline, justice, tolerance and democratic responsibility and work sincerely for the country’s development and prosperity.
Both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker stressed that Allama Iqbal’s message transcended the boundaries of time and continued to offer guidance in addressing the intellectual, moral and social challenges facing the nation.
