Islamabad, November 8,2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has paid rich tribute to the Poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, on his 149th birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary thinker whose philosophy awakened political consciousness among the Muslims of the subcontinent and laid the intellectual foundations of Pakistan.
In his message on Iqbal Day, the Chairman Senate said Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi (selfhood), self-respect, unity and purposeful action continued to inspire generations.
He said Iqbal envisioned a nation empowered by knowledge, guided by moral principles and committed to justice, dignity and collective progress.
“Iqbal did not merely dream of an independent homeland; he envisioned an awakened, empowered and self-respecting nation capable of determining its own future,” he remarked.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said strengthening democratic institutions, upholding constitutional values and ensuring equal opportunities were essential to realising Iqbal’s vision.
He urged educational institutions to familiarise younger generations with Iqbal’s philosophy and inspire them to pursue knowledge, innovation and national service.
The Chairman Senate emphasised that the greatest tribute to Allama Iqbal lay not merely in commemorating his legacy but in translating his vision into meaningful national action.
He called for a renewed commitment to building a peaceful, united, democratic and prosperous Pakistan, expressing confidence that Iqbal’s timeless message would continue to guide the nation’s future.
