Islamabad, December 10, 2024: The Ministry of Information Technology has officially restored the powers of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing, as announced in a notification issued on Tuesday.
The notification stated that the laws governing the National Cyber Crimes and Investigation Agency, established in 2023 to combat social media crimes, have been repealed. These powers have now been transferred back to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing.
The decision to repeal the laws was attributed to the incomplete structural development of the National Cyber Crimes and Investigation Agency. The ministry clarified that once the agency’s framework is fully operational, its governing laws would be reinstated.
The FIA Cyber Crime Wing has been re-empowered to address crimes committed on social media platforms, ensuring continued vigilance against cybercrimes during the transitional phase.
